The Damnable Trail network offers scenic coastal hiking with ocean views and routes ranging from easier walks to more challenging hikes.
Spend a few hours on the trail and finish the day back in Salvage with food and a locally brewed beer at the Longhouse.
There's plenty to see beyond Salvage. Explore the beaches at Eastport and Sandy Cove, spend some time on the area's hiking trails, visit local galleries and theatre, or simply take the time to drive through the small coastal communities that make up the peninsula.
Terra Nova National Park is approximately 27 kilometres from the Longhouse, making Salvage an easy addition to a day spent exploring the park. Spend the morning hiking or at the beach in Terra Nova, then make the drive out to Salvage for food and a pint before heading back.
Salvage is one of Newfoundland's oldest continuously inhabited fishing communities, tucked along the rugged coastline of the Eastport Peninsula. Traditional fishing stages, rocky hills, sheltered coves and ocean views are part of everyday life here. Fishing has shaped the community for generations, and much of that history and character can still be seen throughout Salvage today.
A trip to the Longhouse is also a chance to slow down and explore the community around us. So, while you are here, you will get to enjoy: incredible waterfront views, a beautifully restored historic fish plant, hiking trails, kayaking and boat tours. You will also get the chance to spot whales and icebergs, and get breathtaking photos along the rugged coastline.
It’s not just a stop—it’s a base for exploration and discovery.
